The Move From Scarcity To Abundance Cannot Be Done Alone

There are sufficient resources in the world for the needs of everybody. This belief is rooted in abundance.

Abundance is like a large mosaic consisting of thousands of little stones. Looking up close, each piece seems so insignificant.  One piece is bright red, another cold blue or dull green, another warm purple, another sharp yellow, and yet another shining gold. Some look precious, others ordinary. Some look valuable, others worthless. Some look gaudy, others delicate. As individual stones, we can do little with them except compare them and judge their beauty and value.

When, however, we step back, we can see that all these little stones reveal to us a beautiful picture – telling a story none of these stones can tell by itself.  That is what life in community is about.  Each of us is like a little stone, but together we reveal the story of enough to the world. Abundant community is where humility and glory touch. This belief must become more than a verbal proclamation or an intellectual assent. It must be acted out.

A Story of Abundance
The tooth had to come out.  Daniel had been putting it off because, with a part time job and being too old to be on his mother’s insurance, he didn’t have a lot of options.  But now Danny’s head was throbbing all the time and he had to call in sick to work because the pain was so intense.  He could barely stand to drink water, let alone eat.  Luckily Daniel told a friend, who (unknown to him) was apart of a group that pooled money together to share with people they cared about.  Daniel’s friend told him about a small clinic that had a dentist come in once a month.  It was free but the next available date was weeks away.  The friend asked Daniel if he was okay with a few others knowing about his situation.  Daniel agreed. After exploring different options, the group decided to help Daniel immediately by paying for a dentist bill so that he could return to work sooner and not risk his employment.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts and your generosity can have such a huge impact.  A gift today can literally take away someone’s pain.
